Rewards System for Chores
Money speaks to people of all ages. Ideally, helping around the house should be a part of your family culture, but there’s also nothing wrong with giving your kids some form of monetary incentive. Besides, allowance is not only an excellent motivator, it also presents an opportunity to introduce financial literacy to kids.
Before you implement an allowance for chores, you must first decide which tasks you’re willing to pay for. To start, you can reward them for doing extra chores, those that are beyond their daily, routine tasks. It’s especially important for kids to understand that not everything deserves a reward. There are things expected of them as members of the household.
Should you decide NOT to offer an allowance, you can create a point system for each chore. With every chore they complete, they earn certain points that they can accumulate and exchange for a special treat or request. If your kids are very young, you can even go for gold star stickers on the chore chart. Recognition, in any form, is always appreciated.
